Graeme Hobbs
Producer of letterpress prints, cards and ephemera, chapbooks, artworks and sundry curiosities.
My home is in the borderlands of England and Wales. After producing ‘Colva Books’ for 15 years, I decided I wanted a more tangible connection with the words I was using, so bought an Adana 8x5 press and took it from there, printing whatever takes my fancy with what I have to hand.
The name of my imprint – fallowpages – takes its inspiration from Harmas, the home of the French naturalist Jean-Henri Fabre from 1879 until his death in 1915. ‘Harmas’ means, in Provençal, a plot of uncultivated land, and indeed, Fabre used to keep a strip of just that in his garden to see what turned up. The name seemed a good fit for my various odds, ends and excursions, which often make use of chance finds and unexpected arrivals.
I can be found most days in my letterpress workshop at Hay Castle, at the top of the cobbled alleyway, right next to the cafe terrace overlooking the town.
