My name is Meyrick. I am a self taught woodturner. I have been woodturning for 12 years now. My love of wood and woodturning began when I started working for the Wye & Usk Foundation, restoring and improving fish habitat on the rivers and their tributaries. Through my job I work with trees on a daily basis, so I thought I would like to incorporate wood into a hobby for the dark winter nights. All the wood I use is locally sourced. Here are a few that I use: oak, ash, alder, sycamore, cherry, just to name a few. The wood is naturally dried which usually takes 1 year per inch. I start with a basic idea of the design but inevitably the wood will dictate the end design. The bird design I made as a gift for my father. Everyone loved it so I am experimenting and developing that area of my craft.
